“Such a steal”, “Dumb move”: EDM fans react as Oilers acquire Connor Murphy in trade from Blackhawks
Edmonton Oilers fans on social media reacted after the team acquired defenseman Connor Murphy from the Chicago Blackhawks on Monday.
The Oilers bolstered their defense with the addition of veteran cycle-stopping right-shot defenseman Murphy, who is known for his ability to prevent opposing players from advancing the puck. As part of the transaction, the Oilers sent a second-round selection in the 2028 NHL Draft to the Blackhawks.
The Blackhawks also retained 50% of Murphy’s $4.4 million salary. Here’s how the Edmonton Oilers fans on X (formerly called Twitter) reacted to Connor Murphy’s trade.
One tweeted:
“Honestly, such a steal for Edmonton, Bowman just needs to get us a good 3C and we’re set.”
Another chimed in:
“Dumb move. He’s been floating through life with 0 expectation Hawks.”
Here are some of the other top reactions on X:
“This is honestly I saw the move. Everybody’s saying this is a bad move it’s not. Yes the Oilers need goaltending but at the end of the day the defense is the bigger issue. You have to fix your defense. You get him at 50% retained it only gave up a second. Steal,” a third fan wrote.
“Bowman has done it again! Great trade!! He’s exactly the shutdown guy we needed so badly, and at 50% retained too for only a second!! Incredible work!” one fan opined.
“Not that great considering all the gymnastics they had to do after shooting themselves in the foot in the off season with that Mangiapane deal to begin with” another chimed in.
“They need a goalie worse than anything,” added one fan.
