SAAQ probe leads to permanent shutdown of Place Vertu outlet

An investigation sparked by customer complaints into operations at the Place Vertu outlet of the Société de l’assurance automobile du Québec (SAAQ) has resulted in the permanent shutdown of the outlet and the results of the probe being given to police, the provincial licensing agency

announced on Monday.

The investigation, first announced on Feb. 12, was triggered by unspecified “reports received from clients,” the SAAQ said.

Monday’s announcement possessed few details, but it noted that the investigation had found “certain irregularities in the activities of the (outlet) agent. Some findings were deemed serious enough to officially file complaints with police authorities.”

The agency said that “because of the breakdown of trust with this agent, the SAAQ has decided to end its business relationship” with the outlet, located in the borough of St-Laurent.

While describing the situation as “regrettable,” the SAAQ noted the importance of control mechanisms “to identify and limit the risks of wrongdoing.”

“The efficiency of these measures allows the public trust to be maintained,” it wrote, adding it had no further comment on the results of its investigation.

Customers who already had appointments at the Place Vertu outlet will be contacted to reschedule at other nearby SAAQ branches.

Those who planned to set up an appointment at the Place Vertu site are being referred to t

he other outlets of the SAAQ

or invited to carry out their transactions

online.
