A community workshop will be held to discuss ArcelorMittal Dofasco’s application to the province for “flexibility” when it comes to air and noise pollution.
The steelmaker has applied to the Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks to renew conditions that allow it to emit noise and contaminants above Ontario regulations, says the Environmental Registry of Ontario.
The public can submit comments through the registry until March 12.
A community group called Citizens Against Pollution says it is hosting an in-person workshop Tuesday to help people submit comments.
It will take place at the Hamilton Stadium’s City Lounge on the second floor on Tuesday. Doors open at 6 p.m., the group says.
Dofasco’s application is for “operational flexibility” during coke, iron and steel manufacturing, cold and hot rolling, galvanizing and electrolytic coating lines, finishing and boilers, says the registry.
Emissions from the facility include total suspended particulate, benzo[a]pyrene, benzene, manganese, sulphur dioxide and noise.
