Why fans think Daniil Medvedev vs Tallon Griekspoor final at ATP Dubai Open 2026 will not happen today

Daniil Medvedev and Tallon Griekspoor have made it to the finals of the ATP Dubai Open, but fans aren’t sure they will get to witness the duo’s summit clash today. This doubt comes after Griekspoor admitted that he was badly injured in his semifinals against Andrey Rublev, and that he could not move comfortably due to an issue with his hamstring.

Medvedev and Griekspoor have both enjoyed impressive runs in Dubai so far. The Russian is yet to drop a set at the ATP 500, having taken down the likes of Shang Juncheng, Stan Wawrinka, Jenson Brooksby and Felix Auger-Aliassime with ease. Meanwhile, Griekspoor has clinched wins over second seed Alexander Bunlik, sixth seed Jakub Mensik and fifth seed Andrey Rublev this week. However, after his win over Rublev, the Dutchman admitted to struggling with a hamstring injury, saying in his on-court interview,

“I have no idea how I won that match, honestly. was lucky and unlucky at the same time. I couldn’t really move in game four. No idea how I got it over the line. I was very lucky in the tiebreak because if this was going to three sets, it would have been extremely hard for me.”

Reaction to this, fans questioned Tallon Griekspoor’s ability to play in the final, with one X user writing,

“Yikes. Not sure we are having a final tomorrow in Dubai. But amazing effort from Griekspoor.”

Another fan showcased a similar opinion, writing,

“Then why did you continue? Now fans get to watch a retirement in the final smh.”

Here is how other tennis enthusiasts reacted to Tallon Griekspoor’s injury admission ahead of his finals against Daniil Medvedev:

“Sounds like a free title for Meddy xD,” one fan wrote.

“Sounds pretty ominous for the final,” another added.

“I hope he will play tomorrow. Amazing week, with a possible sad end,” one X user commented.

Prior to their upcoming clash at the Dubai Open, Daniil Medvedev and Tallon Griekspoor have faced each other once on the ATP Tour. Coincidentally, their only other meeting also took place at the Dubai Open. In 2025, the duo faced off against each other in the quarterfinals of the ATP 500. Back then, it was Griekspoor who won the encounter, clinching a hard-fought 2-6, 7-7(7), 7-5 win.

Overall, if Tallon Griekspoor can stage a sufficient recovery from his injury, his upcoming finals against Daniil Medvedev promises an interesting battle. While Griekspoor is hunting for his maiden ATP 500 title, Medvedev will be looking to win a second Dubai Open trophy.
