Police in B.C. say six charges have been laid against a Vancouver-based social media influencer following a human-trafficking investigation.
RCMP say an investigation into a man suspected to be involved in human trafficking began last May. It’s alleged that the victim was trafficked throughout the Lower Mainland and the Greater Toronto Area.
On Feb. 20, the B.C. Prosecution Service approved the following charges against 31-year-old Tevin Douglas:
- trafficking in persons;
- procuring a person to provide sexual services;
- material benefit from trafficking;
- material benefit from sexual services;
- advertising sexual services;
- and sexual assault.
RCMP say the offences are alleged to have happened between July 1 and Dec. 1, 2023.
With help from police in Vancouver and Burnaby, as well as B.C.’s anti-gang agency, investigators arrested Douglas at his Vancouver home, where a search warranted was then executed.
He was released by the courts on Feb. 24 on numerous conditions.
“Investigators believe there are individuals with additional information who have not yet come forward,” said Insp. Lyndsay O’Ruairc of the B.C. Counter Human Trafficking Unit.
O’Ruairc encourages anyone with information to reach out to local police.
