RCMP in the Yukon are urging drivers to slow down or, if possible, avoid travelling entirely, because of deteriorating road conditions south of Whitehorse.
Police said they are responding to a collision at Army Beach Drive and the Alaska Highway. They did not provide any details about the crash, nor say if there are any injuries.
But police say officers saw “multiple vehicles” off the road as they drove the Alaska Highway to reach the crash site. Snow has been falling all morning in and around the Yukon capital.
“Motorists who must travel are urged to reduce their speed considerably, drive to conditions, and allow extra time to reach their destinations,” RCMP said in a news release. “If travel can be postponed, police recommend delaying your trip until conditions improve.”
511 Yukon is reporting expected delays near the crash site at kilometre 1380 on the Alaska Highway, as well as rough road conditions on the South Klondike Highway near the Alaska Highway cutoff.
Environment Canada forecasts the snow will continue until Wednesday.
