How Man City players feel about title race with Arsenal – ‘We can do that’

Manchester City star Nico O’Reilly spoke about the Premier League title race after his goals earned an important win over Newcastle.

Manchester City are in a good place as they look to hunt down Arsenal in the title race. The Blues lost ground in January with just one win from six Premier League games but have bounced back in all competitions.

As well as booking a Carabao Cup final date with Arsenal, qualifying for the Champions League last-16 and the FA Cup fifth round, Pep Guardiola’s side have kept the pressure on the Gunners at the top of the Premier League table with three straight victories. Nico O’Reilly scored both goals in a 2-1 win over Newcastle on Saturday night that saw emphatic celebrations from players and staff.

The Etihad was alive with the feel of a title race and while many of Guardiola’s squad have not experienced that before, they are growing into the season and getting better. Having spent most of the campaign at left-back, O’Reilly has come into the midfield without a hitch and new signings Antoine Semenyo and Marc Guehi have settled instantly.

City will be powerless if Arsenal win all of their remaining games, but recent slips from Mikel Arteta’s side have only encouraged the Blues and they have a home game against the Gunners to come in April that could be decisive. The aim for now is to continue to build on the platform they have given themselves as every game comes with increasing pressure.

“It’s the same every single game now. Our main focus is just the three points and we go into every game believing we can do that because we know how good we are as a team,” said O’Reilly. “For the rest of the games now in every competition our aim is to just win.
