Cats Are Too Smart To Fall for Owner’s April Fools Prank – CatTime
One gets a pranking pass on April Fools’ Day, but this hilarious video from Instagram user @abram.engle shows that no prank ever works on cats. In the video, a dad tries to pull off a classic pet prank. He stands in the middle of a room and announces, “Kurt and Gary, I’m not feeling too hot,” adding an “Oh no,” before clutching his head and falling on the ground with a dramatic thump.
Owner fails trying to prank cats on April Fools
That sudden thumping sound does get a reaction from Kurt and Gary. Both cats in the video jolt and scoot away for a second, clearly caught off guard by dad’s April Fools prank fall. But the concern does not last very long. One cat glances back like he wants to confirm the source of the noise, then turns right back toward the window, as if outdoor viewing is so much more important than any medical emergency.
The cat eventually walks over to check on his dad, giving his hands a careful sniff, one hand at a time. Then, he walks to sit near the second cat. For a moment, the two seem to share a look that reads, “What was that?” but then they instantly settle in and carry on.
When the dad pops his head up, he announces, “April Fools!” He looks over at the cats, unimpressed by their lack of panic, and asks, “Did they even care?” The video ends with him calling them out with, “Come on, guys!” The video’s on-screen caption jokes about the failed prank, reading, “I guess cats know about April Fools,” while the caption under the post further quips, “such loving creatures.”
The prank did not work because cats rely heavily on scent and familiar cues. A loud thump might startle them, but a sniff can tell them a lot about whether something feels truly wrong. One commenter explained it well, writing, “They know because of your scent. It would be different if your were actually sick or dead.” All in all, the cats did not fall for the April Fools’ prank in the video because, well, they decided it was not their problem.
