3 WrestleMania 42 matches that could be confirmed on WWE SmackDown this week

WrestleMania 42 is just five weeks away and WWE has started its preparations in full swing. As of now, only four matches have been made official for the spectacle, with all being championship bouts. The upcoming episode of SmackDown will therefore be a pivotal stop on the road to ‘Mania, as it could see a few matches getting added to the card.

Currently, several storylines have been brewing subtly on the roster, whether it’s for the United States Championship or non-title feuds. WWE doesn’t have much time left for The Show of Shows and those storylines could finally shift gears tonight. It could eventually lead to Nick Aldis making certain matches official for the biggest event of the year.

Let’s take a look at three WrestleMania 42 matches that could be confirmed on SmackDown this week:

#3. Carmelo Hayes vs. Ilja Dragunov

Ever since winning the United States Championship, Carmelo Hayes has been defending it regularly by issuing open challenges on SmackDown. Tonight, he could finally get his WrestleMania 42 challenger in the form of Ilja Dragunov. WWE has been showcasing a brewing storyline backstage between the two superstars for the past few months.

While Hayes has been trying to give The Mad Dragon a title match, the latter has been evading it, waiting for the right time. Dragunov could finally accept the impending battle with Melo and he could choose WrestleMania as the stage for that. As a result, Nick Aldis could make this bout official for the United States Championship at The Show of Shows.

#2. Uncle Howdy vs. Solo Sikoa

Another match that could get official tonight for WrestleMania 42 is Uncle Howdy vs. Solo Sikoa. The two superstars have been embroiled in a heated rivalry with each other for quite some time now. From a singles match to faction warfare, they have battled each other several times until now. But this rivalry has yet to see a definitive end.

Therefore, WWE might plan its final chapter at WrestleMania 42. Nick Aldis could take the center stage tonight and announce a match between Solo Sikoa and Uncle Howdy with a massive stipulation in it. The General Manager could book this clash for ‘Mania, looking to put an end to this prolonged saga at The Show of Shows in Las Vegas.

#1. Drew McIntyre vs. Jacob Fatu at WrestleMania 42

The biggest highlight of Friday Night SmackDown has been the rivalry between Drew McIntyre and Jacob Fatu. Last week, The Samoan Werewolf cost McIntyre his Undisputed WWE Title and therefore the latter could be on a rampage tonight. Things could turn ugly on SmackDown as both superstars are seemingly bloodthirsty for each other.

Nick Aldis might find himself in a huge predicament unable to navigate teh chaos. As a result, he may have no other choice but to book the two superstars in a match to allow them to settle their differences. Aldis could make Drew McIntyre vs. Jacob Fatu official for WrestleMania 42. The General Manager could make this official announcement on tonight’s show.
