3 Mistakes AEW made with Danhausen that WWE must not repeat

Former AEW star Danhausen made his WWE debut at last night’s Elimination Chamber. A few weeks ago, the sports entertainment juggernaut introduced a giant crate. On the box, it was written that it should be opened at the premium live event. Many predicted that it could be the Kid Gorgeous inside the crate. However, he was still under contract when it was brought to TV.

The Very Nice Very Evil wasn’t seen in Tony Khan’s promotion for over a year. He was absent from AEW TV for over two years. He made his last appearance in December 2024 at ROH’s Final Battle. Neither Tony nor Danhausen addressed his absence. His contract was originally set to expire in December 2025, but the AEW President extended it by adding injury time.

The Kid Gorgeous hinted that he had become a free agent ahead of Elimination Chamber. To everyone’s surprise, he came out of the box and made his WWE debut. Fans were left in awe of his presentation and unique character. There were also boos during his debut, as many fans expected a bigger surprise.

Danhausen has a chance to start his career on a fresh slate. Let’s take a look at some of the mistakes WWE shouldn’t repeat when booking the former AEW star.

#3. Danhausen wasn’t involved with the top guys in AEW

AEW fans were well aware of the Kid Gorgeous and were happy to see him in WWE.

However, weeks after his debut in All Elite Wrestling, he was booked on Dark and Rampage. Fans lost interest in him because he wasn’t booked with the main eventers. Instead, he was involved in storylines with Q. T. Marshall, Jon Cruz, Ethan Page, Tony Nese, and several other enhancement talents. At best, he teamed up with FTR, Orange Cassidy, and Hook. Apart from that, he has seen nowhere near the top spots.

WWE should build his character by letting him interact with top stars. For characters like him, win-loss records don’t matter. Keeping him on TV would have developed his character, something AEW failed to do.

#2. Not capitalizing after his debut

The Very Nice Very Evil star made a name for himself during the pandemic by uploading tons of content. He increased his popularity by wrestling on the independent circuit. Fans were excited to see him debut in AEW in 2022, and he drew a huge pop. Many were eager to see how Tony Khan would book him. Unfortunately, he wasn’t featured much and didn’t make his in-ring debut for four months.

However, it seems WWE won’t repeat the same mistake. Danhausen is reportedly set to appear on RAW this Monday.

#1. Danhausen wasn’t given his space in AEW

The former AEW star’s character wasn’t meant to be booked like everyone else. He has an unorthodox gimmick that AEW failed to understand. Instead of evaluating where he fits, the Very Nice Very Evil was sent to shows like Dark and Rampage and was later taken off TV.

WWE should learn from AEW’s mistake and give him time to establish himself. Many fans are even suggesting that Danhausen team up with R-Truth. Their segments would surely draw a lot of eyes. Interaction with a legend like Truth would also help the Kid Gorgeous.

It remains to be seen what Danhausen will do on his RAW debut.
