How Did the 2026 World Cup Draw Work?

Teams were divided into four pots of 12 based on the November 19, 2025 FIFA rankings. Pot 1 included the three hosts (pre-placed in A1, B1, D1) and the nine highest-ranked qualified teams. The draw proceeded pot by pot, filling Groups A through L in order. Rules prevented same-confederation clashes outside Europe and limited each group to a maximum of two UEFA teams.

Key World Cup 2026 Storylines

  • Argentina avoids Brazil until at least the quarter-finals.
